10 ways to worry less about the hot weather

High temperature occasioned by the tropical sun in Nigeria is not a new experience. However, coupled with the realities of climate change and the prevailing economic situation in the country, many are coming face to face with the harshness of the sun for the first time.

The rains have tarried in coming along this year. And the challenges being faced in the country’s power sector have ruled out air conditioners as an alternative for many individuals, even corporate organisations.

The fuel scarcity that has lingered for more than a month now has also forced many to stay longer in the sun.

Though, the human body adapts accordingly and as seamlessly as possible, many have suffered the consequences of the extreme temperature. The consequence for some has been mere heat exhaustion which can quickly be battled with drinks of cold water and a rest in a cool environment. Meanwhile, for some it has been heat stroke, which is more severe and requires medical attention.

Before the rain comes though, here are a few measures you can take to reduce the effect of the heat on your health:

    1. Drink enough Water

Drinking water helps to hydrate and replenish your body.  When the temperature is high, the body automatically reacts by sweating. That may be the body’s way of cooling the temperature but it is also losing water. Extreme dehydration may make the body weak and it may lead to dizziness and fainting. So you need to drink water.

    2. Shower as often as possible

Showering will help cool the body temperature naturally. It will also help curbing issues with body odour that may be occasioned by heavy sweating.

    3. Cool Your Pulse

The National Sleep Foundation recommended placing a damp washcloth in the freezer to create an easy, cooling compress, reports accuweather.com.  Placing the frozen cloth on your wrists or any pulse points will bring an icy shock to your body. If you do not have an ice pack, leave your wrists under cold, running water for 30 seconds. This will cool the blood in your veins and provide some instant relief.

    4. Avoid alcoholic beverages

As much as cold bottles of beer or energy drinks may look appealing in the hot sun, it would be a bad idea to take these substances as they act as diuretics and promote dehydration.

    5. Seek shelter in air conditioned public places

Try to visit public buildings with air conditioning during the hottest hours of the day if the heat becomes unbearable, counsels medicinenet.com. Libraries, shopping malls, and movie theaters can all be good places to cool down.

    6. Keep it loose and light

Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-coloured clothing, says the American Red Cross society.  Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.

    7. Slow down

If you can, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

    8.Don’t leave the children

Never leave children, pets in the car, the inside temperature of the car can quickly reach 120 degrees.

    9. Mind what you eat

Don’t eat large protein-rich meals that can increase metabolic heat and warm the body.

    10. Eliminate extra sources of heat

Incandescent light bulbs can generate unnecessary heat, as can computers or appliances left running. Eat fresh foods that do not require you to use the oven or stove to prepare.

Now this topic I’ve spent alot of time studying, especially from a Spiritual angle. Premarital sex to be exact and there are so many layers of blatant truth and implications to this act of satisfying the desires of the flesh we all need to be enlightened by.

This is definitely one topic our generation doesn’t want to hear about and no I’m no saint either so don’t think I’m pointing fingers at anyone or judging. Like always, I’m sharing my truth and thoughts.

I’ll go straight to the key issues so I don’t end up writing a book.

Please be very careful about who you are intimate with and who yuo share your body with. We tend to see only the physical side of sex and ignore the existence of the Spiritual (which is the MOST important).

In this generation, sex is as common as a handshake, no sentiments to it, no love attached to it, its now a commodity for trade (cash and benefits alike) people sell their dignity for cash, cars, houses, bags, shoes and Luxurious Holidays like its nothing and come on the gram stunting.

Living for today but i promise you it would eventually catch up to you in time because we may not see the act but never forget GOD DOES!

Sex was invented by God for communion between Husband and Wife, to create a greater bonding experience and he knew the power of it hence the commandments restricting us from Premarital sex.

Everytime we have sex, there’s an exchange of spiritual energy between both people, be careful what you invite into your temple cos there are consequences that may not manifest in the Physical.

Sex plays a major role in so many Life issues and marriage problems today, from Heartbreaks, cheating, abortions, adultery, pregnancies, STDs, Guilt / betrayals and the list goes on! Most important of all It distances us from God.

Now being distant from God, how do we expect the relationship to be blessed by him? The harsh truth is, a relationship with two sexually active individuals is definitely not one that Glorifies God so whatever fruits that relationships bears is up to them.

A Relationship that has God as the foundation and center would bear fruits and eventually lead to multiplication.

The choice is Ours and so are the consequences.

There are plenty of reasons to maintain good posture, and doing so can benefit a person’s body and mind.

The main health risks of poor posture are aches and pains, which can occur right away or down the road, said Jill Henderzahs-Mason, a wellness physical therapist at the Mayo Clinic’s Healthy Living Program in Rochester, Minnesota. This discomfort may start in the neck or back, but ultimately, it may affect the hips or knees, she said.

People who exhibit bad posture also may be less efficient when they move, Henderzahs-Mason said. “They don’t move as well or as fast, and are predisposed to injury,” she said.

Posture in which the shoulders are hunched forward can even impact breathing, because the diaphragm and the lungs have less room to expand, and this narrows the airways, Henderzahs-Mason told Live Science.

There are many other benefits of standing or sitting up straight. For one, it can help people appear taller and  feel better about themselves.

Psychology studies have suggested that slouchier postures make people look less confident to others, and even feel less competent, Henderzahs-Mason said. There’s also some evidence showing that people who walk with a slouched posture have a higher predisposition to depression than those who walk more upright, she noted.

    We’re black
    Heads up high
    Glory to glory
    No long story
    Shining black body
    Haters Looking frowzy
    Skies becoming cloudy
    Cuz we’re black,we don’t slack
    Our chin don’t crack
    Still we don’t shout
And matter how they try,we still don’t sag.

    Black women ryde!!!
    We ryde.

    It’s The Africa In Me

    It’s the Africa in me
that loves the forest in which I wake,
that sees and hears its fauna and flora and revels in their names.

    It’s the Africa in me
that you hear in my spirited conversation,
that shakes my shoulders as I sob my sorrows
    or laugh my insides, inside-out.

    It’s the Africa in me
that keeps me reading poetry deep into the night
and causes me to stroke the sinuous muscles of my striped, domestic cat
and kiss the muzzle of my gently nickering horse.

    It’s the Africa in me
that has taught me how to love
and patches up the fragments of my soul after each disaster
and renews my zeal and increases my understanding
in preparation for the next onslaught.

    It’s the Africa in me
    that has carried me
    from my first baby breath
and will support me to my very last.

I am truly a child born of Africa.
