  • Born in Africa

    Born in Africa

    image

    I was born in Africa
    In the war and poverty
    I love Africa my country
    I will save Africa.

    I was born in Africa
    The richest land for others
    The hell for our mothers
    I must save Africa.

    I was born in Africa
    Garden of dictatorship
    That makes hopelessness our ship
    Let me save Africa!

  • A cry from Africa

    A cry from Africa

    image

A wind is ruffling the tawny pelt
Of Africa, Kikuyu, quick as flies,
Batten upon the bloodstreams of the veldt.
Corpses are scattered through a paradise.
Only the worm, colonel of carrion, cries:

‘Waste no compassion on these separate dead!’
    Statistics justify and scholars seize
    The salients of colonial policy.
What is that to the white child hacked in bed?
    To savages, expendable as Jews?
Threshed out by beaters, the long rushes break
In a white dust of ibises whose cries
    Have wheeled since civilizations dawn
From the parched river or beast-teeming plain.

The violence of beast on beast is read
As natural law, but upright man
Seeks his divinity by inflicting pain.
Delirious as these worried beasts, his wars
Dance to the tightened carcass of a drum,
While he calls courage still that native dread
Of the white peace contracted by the dead.

Again brutish necessity wipes its hands
Upon the napkin of a dirty cause, again
A waste of our compassion, as with Spain,
The gorilla wrestles with the superman.
I who am poisoned with the blood of both,
Where shall I turn, divided to the vein?

    I who have cursed
The drunken officer of British rule, how choose
Between this Africa and the English tongue I love?
Betray them both, or give back what they give?
How can I face such slaughter and be cool?
How can I turn from Africa and live?

  • Ways to spend your money wisely

Ways to spend your money wisely

    image

Do you hate it when you really need money, but your wallet is empty? No matter how little or how much money you have, spending it wisely is a good idea; it enables you to get the most bang for your buck. Follow these tips to reduce expenditures in key areas and adopt a safer overall approach to shopping.

    1
Create a budget. Track your spending and income so you have an accurate picture of your financial situation. Save receipts or write down your purchases in a notebook as you make them. Review your bills each month and add those expenses to your budget.Organize your purchases by category (food, clothing, entertainment, etc.). Categories with the highest monthly amounts (or monthly amounts you consider surprisingly high) may be good targets for saving money.Once you’ve tracked your purchases for a while, create a monthly (or weekly) limit for each category. Make sure the total budget is smaller than your income for that period, with enough left over for savings if possible.

    2

Plan your purchases in advance.Making spur of the moment decisions can balloon your expenditures. Write down what you need to buy while you’re calm and at home.Make a preliminary trip before you go on your real shopping trip. Note the prices of several alternatives at one or more stores. Return home without buying anything and decide which products to buy on your second, “real” expedition. The more focused you are and the less time you spend in the store, the less you’ll spend. If you are motivated to treat each purchase as an important decision, you will make better decisions. Do not accept free samples or try something on just for fun. Even if you don’t plan on purchasing it, the experience can convince you to make a decision now instead of considering it carefully in advance.

    3

Avoid impulse purchases. If planning your purchases in advance is a good idea, buying something on the spur of the moment is a terrible one. Follow these tips to avoid making shopping decisions for the wrong reasons:Don’t browse store windows or shop for fun. If you’re only buying something because you find the act of shopping fun, you’ll likely end up spending too much on stuff you don’t need. Don’t make purchasing decisions when your judgement is impaired. Alcohol, other drugs, or sleep deprivation  can harm your ability to make sensible decisions. Even shopping while hungry or listening to loud music can be a bad idea if you don’t stick to your shopping list.

    4

Shop alone. Children, friends who love shopping, or even just a friend whose tastes you respect can influence you to spend extra money. Do not take advice from store employees. If you need a question answered, politely listen to their response but ignore any advice on purchasing decisions. If they won’t leave you alone, leave the store and return later to make your decision.

    1) Drink more water. Most of us actually don’t drink enough water every day. Water is essential for our body to function. Do you know over 60% of our body is made up of water? Water is needed to carry out our body functions, remove waste and carry nutrients and oxygen around our body.

Furthermore, drinking more water alone actually aids in losing weight. A Health.com study carried out among overweight/obese people showed that water drinkers lose 4.5 more pounds than a control group. The researchers believe that it’s because drinking more water helps fill your stomach, making you less hungry and less likely to overeat. I agree with that, and I have an added take that your body tries to retain whatever water you take when you don’t take in enough water, leading to increase in weight. Whereas when you regularly drink water, your body knows that it’s going to get its supply of fluids, so it doesn’t try to retain more water.

The amount of water we need is dependent on various factors such as the humidity, our physical activity, and your weight, but generally we need 2.7-3.7 litres of water intake! Since food intake contributes about 20% of our fluid intake, that means we need to drink about 2.0-3.0 litres of water, or about 8-10 glasses (now you know how the 8 glasses recommendation came about!). One way to tell if you’re hydrated – your urine should be colorless or slightly yellow. If it’s not, you’re not getting enough water! Other signs include: Dry lips, dry mouth and little urination. Go get some water first before you continue this article!

    2) Get enough sleep. When you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more. Usually it’s junk food. Get enough rest and you don’t need to snack to stay awake. Also, lack of sleep causes premature aging, and you wouldn’t want that.

    3) Exercise. Not just a few times a week, but every day. Movement is life. Research has shown that exercising daily brings tremendous benefits to our health, including increase of life span, lowering of risk of diseases, higher bone density and weight loss. Increase activity in your life. Choose walking over transport for close distances. Climb the stairs instead of taking the lift. Join some aerobics classes and take up a sport of your liking.

    4) Eat more fruits. Fruits are a plethora of vitamins and minerals.Taking in synthetic supplements are not the same as consuming the foods direct from nature. Fill your pal with these: Watermelon, Apricots, Avocado, Apple, Cantaloupe, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Guava, Papaya, Strawberries.

  • Lord, I hear you whisper

    Lord, I hear you whisper

    image

The Lord whispered to me, “I love you so,”
“Come follow me, my child, high places we will go.”
The Lord knelt beside me at an altar in prayer,
He wiped my tears and took away my despair.
“Come follow me, my child,” the Lord whispered to me,
“There will be no more pain, but oh so much to gain.”
He said, “I forgive you now for all you’ve done,”
Now it’s time to receive the love of God’s only son.”
His love was so warm, so bright and so true,
I could not believe my soul he had renewed,
He repaired my soul from the inside out.
It was then and only then I knew what love was about.
The cleansing power that fell over me,
Was the love of the Lord as he carried me.
“Come follow me, my child,” the Lord whispered to me,
“In that sweet holy land someday you will be.
You will see the Lord’s face at those big pearly gates,
Where loved ones embrace and angels await.
Come follow me, my child,” the Lord whispered to me,
“I will love you always, your protector I’ll be.”
